The competition, which was initially set to be branded as the EPL - as in IPL (Indian Premier League) - is more likely to come into being as P20. The hope is it will follow the original model in that it will take place in June and still feature up to four overseas players per team.

The ECB conceded as much ground as it feasibly could by allowing England players to spend three weeks in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but there will be no reciprocal generosity. Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, ruled out a quid pro quo agreement and described as “next to impossible” the likelihood that 20 IPL stars will be released to feature in the English Premier League (EPL) next year as requested by the ECB.

Texas billionaire Allen Stanford has decided to end his five-year contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board for an annual one-day series after he lost USD 40 million in the first year itself, sending ECB into a financial tailspin, media reports said in London on Wednesday.
